President Obama Urges the U.S. to Aid Syria as Death Toll Rises

The ongoing civil war in Syria has recently faced international complications with the use of chemical weapons by President Bashar al-Assad against the country’s people, despite warnings from President Barack Obama and other Western leaders.

Obama met with the United Nations in late August after reports were released that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on a Damascus suburb in the middle of the night. The attack killed nearly 1,500 people, over 400 of which were children. The Sarin gas that was used against civilians is known to burn one’s skin and eyes, and often results in death by asphyxiation due to its attack on the nervous system.
