Legendary Kanye West Twitter rants

It may be his wife Kim Kardashian who’s known for “breaking the internet,” but rapper Kanye West came pretty close himself at the beginning of February when he fired off a rapid series of tweets aimed at fellow hip-hop artist Wiz Khalifa. If you’re confused as to how this all started, or what even happened, then welcome to the club. Please, sit back and relax as I try to guide you through it.

Apparently, Kanye misunderstood a tweet from Wiz and thought he was dissing his Mrs. In response, Kanye not only went after Wiz’s music by calling it corny, he also attacked the mother of Wiz’s child, Amber Rose, saying, “4th you let a stripper trap you” and “13th You own waves???? I own your child!!!!” Kanye is of course referencing the fact that he and Rose used to date and consequently, if they had not broken up, Wiz and Amber would have married and would not have their son, Sebastian Taylor Thomaz.

House of Cards season four starts off with a bang

Season three left you with a disgruntled President in the middle of campaign season without his wife Claire by his side. The dynamic duo that once was is slowing falling apart, and Frank is coming to the realization that his time in the White House is running out. This season really brings home the point about how strange Claire and Frank’s relationship really is. They are obviously having trouble with the presidential race not going as planned, Claire feeling neglected, and an old feud being brought back to life between Claire’s mother and Frank. What most couples would do is privately take up couples counseling and learn to love each other again.

Youtuber of the Month

Hello, loyal “Youtuber of the month” reader. This month, we are going a little outside of the box. When asked to write this piece, I realized that my Youtube preferences might be different than previous writers.

Arguably the best videos on Youtube come from an account titled Sweetambs. The account is literally just videos related to cookie decorating. I’m serious. Now you might be wondering, ‘why on earth would I ever want to watch that?’ Hear me out.

Have you ever just been really overwhelmed? Like, you don’t want to do anything because everything is going wrong and you can’t take it any more? Of course you have. If you are reading this paper, odds are you go to Assumption College meaning you deal with crap like midterms, homework and annoying floormates.

We were on a break

For 10 years, six twentysomethings from New York entertained us every Thursday night with their wacky antics and numerous cups of coffee. The hit television sitcom Friends aired from September 22, 1994 until May 6, 2004 on NBC, with its audience thinking that this would be the last time the cast would be together.

To the pure pleasure of the entire world, these “friends” would later be “reunited.”

Since the 1970s, James Burrows had been directing episodes of beloved television sitcoms. From Taxi to Mike and Molly and many, many more, Burrows has been making everyone laugh with his creative and unique directing skills.

Recently, Burrows had directed his 1000th episode of television for the new NBC sitcom Crowded, and to celebrate, the stars of television shows, Will & Grace, Cheers, Taxi, The Big Bang Theory, Mike and Molly, Frasier and Friends came together to pay tribute to the king of television sitcoms.

Fuller House is a tribute to the original classic

On February 26, Netflix released 13 episodes of the highly anticipated reboot of popular sitcom Full House. Fuller House follows a grown-up DJ Tanner-Fuller, played by Candace Cameron Bure, as she struggles with the challenge of being a single mom to three boys. Recently widowed, DJ moves back in to her childhood home in San Francisco, where Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) raised his three girls with the help of Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) and Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier).

The first episode acts as a reunion of all the old characters, including Danny, Jesse, Joey, DJ, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), Becky (Lori Loughlin) and Kimmy (Andrea Barber). Joining the cast are DJ’s sons, 13-year-old Jackson (Michael Campion), 7-year-old Max (Elias Harger) and newborn Tommy (Dashiell and Fox Messitt).

Author Harper Lee passes away at age 89

On February 19, 2016, the world of American literature lost one of its most beloved contributors when Harper Lee, author of the classic To Kill a Mockingbird, passed away in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. While she produced this iconic work of American literature, she was a recluse who refused to appear publicly.

“Most literary agents would kill to have Nelle Harper Lee as a client,” explains Mark Seal for Vanity Fair. “She published only one novel, but today, 53 years later, it remains a global blockbuster, having sold more than 30 million copies in 40 languages and still selling 750,000 copies a year, according to HarperCollins, the publisher.”

Kendrick Lamar releases another winning album

I’ve sung the praises of Kendrick Lamar multiple times this year, so it should come as no surprise that I’m about to give his new project, untitled unmastered., a glowing review. The context of untitled unmastered., however, is as interesting as the music itself, and so I feel it necessary to chart the course of Kendrick’s career through an interesting comparison.

The Oscars: Mad Max edition

On February 28, the most important event of the year took place. That’s right, the 88th annual Academy Awards, also known as The Oscars, happened. And this year, all eyes were on Leonardo DiCaprio. So much so that the rest of the ceremony seemed to fall flat, except for a few standout moments.

Chris Rock was a pretty average host. He had the difficult task of having to address the race issues within the Academy, which has gotten tons of attention this year as no African-American people have been nominated for any major categories for the second year in a row, while still being respectful to the organization that hired him to host.

Super Bowl Halftime show causes mixed opinions

For the past 50 years, America has been entertained by the act of two teams of men tackling each other, trying to get more points than the other. I think it’s called football. Every Sunday, 32 teams face off until, by the process of elimination, two teams fight to win the Super Bowl. Every year, Super Bowl Sunday gains more and more popularity. Is it because of the actual game? Maybe. The commercials? Possibly. How about the halftime show? Definitely.

The world’s biggest performers participate in the halftime show each season. From Janet Jackson to the Blues Brothers to Aerosmith, the Super Bowl halftime show is one of America’s most watched television programs. For Super Bowl 50, the NFL decided to have a planet, a queen and something cold perform. Wait, let me rephrase that. The halftime show for this year’s Super Bowl was Bruno Mars, Beyoncé and Coldplay.

Best commercials from this years Super Bowl

The Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League, brings out the best in the athletes, no matter their team. In addition, the Super Bowl has frequently been referred to as the most-watched American television broadcast of the year. It is through this popularity and love of the game that a high viewership is gained during each game.

This high viewership is then carried on into the second part of what makes the Super Bowl so popular: its high-profile television commercials. While Super Bowl 50 delivered an outstanding victory for Peyton Manning and the rest of the Denver Broncos, the commercials generated a lot of buzz.

Here are five commercials that deserve some recognition, both for how they are presented and what they are trying to convey.
