Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. students congregate in the Student Activities Resource Room (SARR) and carry on the task of planning many of Assumption College’s student events. Did you have your picture taken outside of Des on the first day of classes? Maybe your roommate won a PS4 at bingo? Did you travel off campus for a free trip to the Wrentham Outlets? Then you have come to an event sponsored by the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
CAB coordinates all of these events through the efforts of their executive board and their weekly CABbie meetings. CAB executives have been working on some of their events since April, but a lot of their work happens through the creativity and efforts of the CABbies. The meetings on Wednesday provide an opportunity for CAB to pick the brains of the student body to plan even bigger and better events.
As you walk into a CAB meeting on any given Wednesday evening or you step into the office in Charlie’s, you enter a creative, friendly atmosphere filled with students looking for ideas and playing off of their individual creativity. You’ll find them doing a variety of things: making posters to hang in the dorms, brainstorming prizes for bingo or even ordering food or inflatables for an event. Either way, all are welcome into such a positive environment.
There is a quote on the wall in the CAB office, “May all who enter as guests, leave as friends.” That is the philosophy that spreads through every level of the organization. Whether a member only stops by for the Wednesday meeting or they begin spending some of their free time in the office, the members of CAB become a close-knit group, grounded in a common goal to provide amazing events that can have a positive effect on the student body and create a community for someone. Whether those are through a school-wide dance party with 900 of your closest friends or at a roller skating rink in the Plourde on any given Saturday night, CAB strives to bring Assumption together.
Everyone is welcome to have fun with CAB, either through their events or at their meetings. Be on the lookout for upcoming events by following our social media accounts or feel free to stop in the office and ask questions. And remember, if you ever want to see an event on campus, tell CAB; their whole job is to make your experience at Assumption as amazing as you imagined it would be the first time you drove past the duck pond. We’ll see you on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
