Assumption College is offering something new. Something that will benefit all students who wish to catch up, save money and accelerate their academic program. They’ll be able to do this through Assumption’s Summer Semester courses.

These classes will count towards their general requirements for their majors and/or the Core. In other words, it would be like taking regular classes during the fall and spring semesters. Except these classes will be cheaper and during a shorter period of time. These courses will be taught by Assumption faculty, the classes will be small and the learning experience will be as equally personable as during the school year. The benefit is that they will be able to take a semester’s worth of coursework in six weeks, proving to be cost-effective and time efficient, especially in these times of rising costs in higher education.

The College will offer a large sum of classes. These range from the humanities to the arts to the natural sciences. There are two summer sessions; the first, starting May 26 until July 2; the second, starting July 6 until August 14.

The tuition fee for each course is $1,850. All of the courses are open to current and non-Assumption students. High school students that are about to start their senior year can also apply, but must go through a screening process.

This summer semester opportunity proves to be appealing to students, especially first years.

“This sounds like an awesome opportunity! I would love the chance to take some gen eds over the summer, so I have more time during the year to focus on my major,” said first-year student Caitlin Pierson. “I will definitely be considering Summer Semester during my time at Assumption.”

“Assumption’s Summer Semester offers students a great opportunity to catch up or get ahead on coursework. In just six weeks and for about half the price charged the regular academic year, students can acquire core, major, and elective credit, and they can do so with the same faculty and highly personalized format that makes Assumption education unique,” said Dr. Deborah Kisatsky, interim associate provost. “We are pleased to make Summer Semester available to both Assumption and non-Assumption students and look forward to an ensuring, vibrant and fulfilling academic experience for all.”

Registration for students will be available online beginning Monday, March 23. Current undergraduate Assumption students can register via WebAdvisor through the portal on Monday, April 13.
