Student shares why you should be selective in what you wear this season
When we think of fall, we think of sweaters and coats. These are the two items of clothing every person should have in their closets for this season, but just because it’s starting to get cold out, you do not have to compromise your outfit. Here are some tips on how to look your best this season.
Oversized sweaters are the best kind of sweaters. There are many colors from which to choose: white, navy blue, beige, maroon, black and grey. Wearing a sweater that has neutral colors will give you the opportunity to be more playful with your outfit in terms of accessories. You can dress them up or dress them down. Try wearing them with boy jeans or leggings.
A note about leggings: don’t just stick with one color. While black leggings go with everything, try to step outside of your comfort zone and try different patterns and colors. Patterns such as polka dots, stripes and flower prints are in fashion this season.
If you are not a fan of leggings, try wearing track pants or navy blue or maroon khaki pants. You would be surprised how much fun they are to wear and how that one piece of clothing can brighten your entire outfit. Try to stay away from bright leggings and pant colors such as magenta, yellow or light blue.
While mixing prints can be a little tricky, it is achievable. Try mixing a flower print with plaid or stripes with polka dots. These combinations result in creative outfits without looking too busy.
Don’t forget jewelry. Having a little bit of bling can never hurt. You can do this by wearing simple studded earrings or an ear cuff, which is very popular this season. If you are a person who likes silver jewelry, wearing something gold next time you go out. Gold jewelry and white clothing complement each other really well. You can also mix silver with gold; not many do this because they think these colors don’t go well together, but they do complement each other.
The fall is your opportunity to wear darker lipstick shades such as dark purple, burgundy, the classic red and brown. However, if you don’t feel comfortable with darker colors, nude colors are always in, no matter the season. As for nails, colors such as beige, teal and brown have become very popular for this season.
Pick one item of clothing that has a different color so your whole outfit stands out while still being monochromatic. Many of you have internships this semester that require many to wear professional attire. For ties, go with solid colors and try to avoid over-the-top patterns, and be sure to invest in a belt that has a subtle buckle—the simpler the better.
