Nicole Breen

Welcome back. I hope that you are all settled and adjusting well to your new schedules. It’s so great to see everyone back on campus — I can already tell that this is going to be a great year.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Nicole Breen, and I am your Student Government Association president. I am a senior psychology major with a minor in education from Norwood, Mass. I am truly honored that I have been given this opportunity and can’t wait to start working with you. My role is to not only oversee all of SGA, but to serve as the liaison between the Student Body as a whole and all of the administration.
No matter how big or small you may think they are, your concerns are my concerns. You can contact me with questions, comments and concerns by stopping in the SGA office in Charlie’s or emailing me at

It’s not just me who you can go to with your concerns. SGA is made up of our executive board, class officers and our student senate.  The students on SGA work closely with other students and administration to voice ideas and concerns of the Student Body. SGA supports students, clubs, organizations and the greater Assumption College campus community. The Student Government Association provides an opportunity for all students to actively contribute to the social and academic environment of the campus.

The SGA executive board consists of the SGA President, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Financial Affairs and the Senate Speaker. The five executives each have different roles, but work closely together to oversee the SGA Senate as a whole and each meet with administrators regularly.

Your SGA Vice President for Student Affairs is Patrick Giroux. Pat is a junior organizational communication major with minors in writing and marketing from Wilmington, Mass. The Vice President for Student Affairs acts as a liaison between the Student Body and some of the major departments on campus such as Athletics, Residential Life and Student Affairs.

Your SGA Vice President for Academic Affairs is Barry Nicholson. Barry is a senior biology major from Norwood, Mass. The Vice President for Academic Affairs acts as a liaison between the Student Body and the faculty.

Your SGA Vice President for Financial Affairs is Jenna Connors. Jenna is a senior political science major with minors in Spanish and psychology from Abington, Mass. The Vice President for Financial Affairs allocates funds to clubs and organizations that fall under SGA. Jenna’s position also has a say on the Budget Priority Planning Committee.

The SGA Senate Speaker is Jennifer Crea. Jenny is a senior marketing major with a minor in graphic design from Rockland, Mass. The Senate Speaker calls and presides over all meetings of the Senate and prepares the agenda and minutes for each meeting. Jenny is also responsible for all proposals presented by student senators.

The student senate is made up of representatives from each class. All senators are placed onto a committee that they sit on for the year. Student Affairs (Derek Pettinelli, chair) Food and Auxiliary (Mike Doyle, chair), Policy Review (Ele Eastwood, chair) and Academic Affairs (Sean Lambert, chair) are the committees on which the senators have the opportunity to serve. The Student Finance Committee is also an option for senators and for students who are not on SGA by submitting an application to the chair, Jenna Connors. Student senators also have the opportunity to serve as a representative for social media and marketing, which is Chelsea Agsalud, and Information Technology, which is Jeremy Virga. If you ever have specific concerns that fall onto a committee, feel free to contact the chairperson or representative.
Class officers work closely together to plan events and fundraise for their respective class. Each class has four officers: president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, who report as a team to their advisor.

The class of 2018 will be joining SGA after the class representatives are elected on September 30. I wish the first years who are running for a position the best of luck. I cannot wait to welcome you into our SGA family and to start working with you all.
