Men's and Women's Tennis roll with season
On Friday, March 28, the Assumption College Women’s Tennis Team dropped a 6-3 final against Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y.
This loss made Assumption’s record 2-9 overall and 1-4 in Northeast-10 play. The Adelphi Panthers improve to a 7-4 overall and are 6-0 in the league.
The team went against the University of New Haven on Tuesday, April 1 with a 5-4 win against the Chargers, who fell to a 6-4 overall and a 4-4 in the league.
Sophomore Paige Palmero earned the 7-5, 6-1 straight-set victory at number six singles. Assumption came out with a lead in the match against the Chargers of 2-1 with a 8-4 win with number one doubles first year Hannah Riley and senior Meg Hall.
On Thursday, April 3, the team had a solid victory of 8-1, which included six singles points against Franklin Pierce University at home.
The single victories were in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0 by Hall. In the top singles, first year Hannah Riley trailed by a 4-1 margin on the second set before making a straight-set victory with scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Hall is in the number five singles spot, right after Riley who is number one.
The women got back on the court on Saturday, April 5 against Le Moyne University, and came away with a 7-2 victory.
Assumption came out with a 2-1 lead, including a 9-7 win by the No. 2 doubles by the team of senior Paige Gilet and first year Kristen Carbone. In singles play, the Hounds came away with wins in the top four singles matches.
The Men’s Tennis Team competed against Adelphi University, losing a 5-4 final against the Panthers. The male Hounds dropped to a 5-6 overall and a 1-4 in the Northeast-10 play. The Panthers improved a 5-4 overall and are at a 4-0 perfect record in the league.
Three-time NE-10 Rookie of the Week and first year Marco Leung picked up a straight-set win at No. 3 singles.
On Friday, April 4, the Men’s Tennis Team cme away with a victory against American International College with a score of 6-3.
Leung won by a 6-0,6-0 margin in No. 3 singles, which runs his singles winning streak to nine straight matches, dating all the way back to September 29.
The men faced Franklin Pierce on the road on Sunday, April 6 at noon and won 5-4.
The men are back in action on Thursday, April 10 at home, facing Stonehill at 3:00 p.m. They currently are 7-6 in their season.
The women’s next game will be Friday, April 11 at Saint Michael’s at 3:30 p.m. They are 5-9 in their season.
